THE BULWARK GARDENS
At the times of the ghetto, the bulwark around Terezín was adapted to vegetable gardens, worked by the deportees. The products were meant only for the German soldiers and their families, but the prisoners still managed to “schleusen” (smuggle) some out and improve their own diet, as well as that of their friends.
